Mamatoga Review: Big Truck Day!

Big Truck Day finally arrived here in Saratoga, it was hotly anticipated by Finn, who wanted to sit in every truck and blast every horn as well. Lev was slightly less excited, she wondered this morning if Kai-Lan was going to be there and at first was only excited to see the Bettie’s Cakes pink bus, but when we pulled in the parking lot they both couldn’t wait to get out and get in those trucks. The event, hosted by the Children’s Museum, is a steal at $5 for children (kids under 1 are free) and only $1 for accompanying adults. The kids didn’t know which truck to go on first, there was a city bus, a school bus, a fire truck, a recycling truck, an 18-wheeler with a sleeper cab a heavy-duty wrecker, a crane with a 100-foot boom and more. Public safety and public works vehicles were also be represented, including a Saratoga Sheriff’s department officer and K-9 unit vehicles and a New York State Trooper rollover vehicle demonstration. Finn got to meet and pet Hogan, the canine part of the K-9 unit who was keeping cool inside the air conditioned police car. Throughout the event, drivers were available to answer any questions the kids had about the vehicles. In addition to the actual trucks, there were truck-themed activities for children include face painting, balloon animals and a bouncy-bounce and a little area with ride on toys and crayons and sidewalk chalk for little ones. There was a good turn out for the event, but even so there were so many different trucks there that we didn’t seem to have to wait in lines at all. Julie and I got to meet a ton of local moms and kids, and if you were one of the ones that we handed a pink Mamatoga postcard to, welcome to Mamatoga! We’re so lucky to have the Children’s Museum host this awesome event, and it’s even better to see how many local families turn out for it to support the museum. We hope you and your kids enjoyed Big Truck Day this year as much as ours did, and it was so great meeting all of you Mamatogians!
