All of our fabulous local restaurants are one of the big reasons I love living in our area, and I am so excited to share this fun event happening all summer hosted by Mamatoga Favorite Adirondack Appliance. Throughout the summer Adirondack Appliance will be hosting a Cast Iron Chef Tournament pitting the TOP restaurants in the Capital Region against one another for the Title of Capitol Region Cast Iron Chef Champion! I’m even more excited to share this news with you because yours truly is going to be one of the judges!
First up-a qualifier. This first leg of the tournament will be at the Capitol Region Builders Association Parade of Homes, Chefs on Parade June 1st and June 8th. Participating restaurants will be paired with a participating builder to serve the Perfect Bite. Judges will judge each entry based on overall taste, creativity, and presentation. Each category will be scored on a scale of 10 points per judge and the winners will be announced June 14th at the Awards Celebration at Hilton Garden Inn in Clifton Park. You can buy tickets for $35 per person which include Two Friday nights- June 1st and 8th from 5 to 10pm, plus all 4 days of Parade of Homes June 2,3, 9 & 10. Restaurants will be ranked by point totals. The 6 top Restaurants from this event will be seeding into a tournament bracket. The top 2 Restaurants will skip the next round and move directly to the Semi Final Round. The remaining 4 chefs will face off at our next round later in the month at the Saratoga Farmers Market. I’ll be judging the Chefs on June 8th alongside Tom Thibeault from Adirondack Appliance, Sally Longo, the host of Guest Who’s Cooking on LookTV and the Chef and owner of Aunt Sally’s Catering and Chef Melissa Doney, a local contestant on Hells Kitchen.
Our next stop will be at the Saratoga Farmers’ Market on Saturday June 23rd from 9-1pm for the first round of bracketed play. Each Team of two Chefs will be given an EVO Grill, a Big Green Egg and a 36” BlueStar Professional Range to cook on. We will run two 90 minute rounds back to back beginning at 9am. Each team will be given a mystery basket of farmers’ market ingredients to utilize in their entry. I will be lucky enough to be a judge in this leg too alongside Tom Thibeault, Steve Barnes from Table Hopping and John Sconzo from Docsconz-Musings on Food & Life. We will be judging this event based on overall taste, creativity, use of basket ingredients and presentation. Each category will be scored on a scale of 10 points per judge. The two winners of this event will move on to face the top two restaurants from the qualifier.
The Semi Final event will be held at the Saratoga Polo Association on Sunday July 15th during the scheduled polo match (where you can also catch a local kiddo singing the National Anthem!). Each team of two chefs will again be given an EVO Grill, a Big Green EGG and a 36” BlueStar Professional Range to cook on.
The two winners of this event will move on to face each other at the Fall Food Wine and Ferrari Festival at SPAC on September 8th, 2012 where there will be special Celebrity Judges on hand for the final judging! The overall winner of this event will be presented with a plaque commemorating the title of Capital Region Cast Iron Chef and a Grill from EVO! I can’t wait to see which one of our local Chefs comes out on top! And you guys can come along for the ride and judge for yourselves at each stop, all you have to do is head out to these fabulous summer events at some of the best spots in town!
