Yes Way Rosé

roséI like wine, but will admit I know next to nothing about it, and so if I'm in the mood for a glass I usually just pick the same old thing, except when it comes to rosé. Eva from Divine Wines is on the blog today telling us all about "that pink wine" that you may have never tried before (but will love). All of the bottles she talks about are available now at Divine Wines at Healthy Living Market and Cafe, perfect to pick one up for the loooooong weekend.

win_pid_5002699_jAs we welcome the warm weather, we also welcome Rosé season! In the U.S. we often associate pink wine with sweetness, thanks in part to the ubiquity of White Zinfandel in the American market, but in Europe (and particularly in France) rosés are more often prized for their dryness. Although some are more fruit-forward than others, none are sweet.

Some flavors and aromas you might detect in these wines are strawberry, raspberry, citrus, mint, violet, lavender, rose, and stone. The term refers to the low-growing vegetation in the area that includes rosemary, lavender, and other herbs. The most common grapes that are used to make Rosés are also the most common to make reds in the Rhone Valley: Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre. In the case of Rosé winemaking, however, the clear juice and the skins are only in contact for a fraction of the time, resulting in wines that range from pale pink to salmon in color. In the lighter form Mourvèdre lends freshness and flavor; Syrah adds fruitiness; Grenache is smooth and fruit-forward; Cinsault brings floral aromas and perfume to the wine; and one can detect citrus and salt from Rolle. All of the complex flavors that typify red wines are present in these ross, but they are much lighter and more versatile when it comes to food pairing. In France, rosés outsell white wine.

You'll find tremendous values from well-regarded producers, as well as a great range of styles to consider- from dark and juicy wines to others that are pale, fresh, and lean, brimming with bright acidity. There's a guaranteed match for whatever dishes are a part of your warm-weather spread. Here are some favorites we currently carry in Divine Wines at Healthy Living Market and Cafe:

1. Château du Rouët Reservée Rose: Sale Price: $13.99

The 2014 Chateau du Rouet Reservée Tradition is a lovely salmon colored wine, with tastes of fresh fruit, such as raspberries, and just a touch dry. With 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah, this wine is a great example of a traditional Provence Rose. I would recommend pairing this Rose with grilled Chicken or grilled Sea Bass and vegetables, cured meats, and spicy Asian inspired dishes.

2. Chateau Miraval Cotes de Provence Rose 2014 Price:$24.99

Ever w1156162xanted to drink like a celebrity? Well now you can. In 1970 renowned composer Jacques Loussier took ownership of Miraval and turned it into a recording studio. Today, Miraval is the summer home of Mr. Brad Pitt and Mrs. Angelina Jolie and their family. Since 2012 The Jolie-Pitt Family have partnered with Famille Perrin, one of the leading french wine producing families, to take care of the vineyard and the wine making process. A blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle and Syrah makes for a pretty pale pink color. With good body, notes of strawberry and stone fruit, and refreshing minerality, this wine will be sure to please! Try it with a spinach and strawberry salad with fresh goat cheese or a charcuterie platter (ed. note: that sounds amazing and I want that immediately).
