Wednesday Calendar Review

We have a fun-filled week ahead of us, so pick an event or activity, grab the kids and enjoy yourself in Saratoga! Wednesday - Today, Jenny and I will be at the Farmers Market handing out kid friendly snacks and collecting school supplies for children in the Saratoga Springs School District for our "At the Store, Buy one More" campaign. They are hosting a kids day with scavenger hunts and games so it'll be fun for the whole family! But start the day off right with an invigorating walk with other moms in Stroller Strides at 9:30.  You can try a week for free by going to their website and clicking on "Promotions Others" and typing in "Mamatoga."  Also happening today is the Adirondack Circuit Dog Show at the Saratoga County Fairgrounds.  Any dog lover will love this - watch obedience training and take a look at your favorite pooch.  The track is always fun and today they are celebrating Mardi Gras, complete with jazz bands, food and entertainment.  Don't miss this starting at 2pm.  Join the library as the PuppeTree presents The Ugly Duckling from 1-2pm.  This event is free and best for kids aged 3 and up.  The Childrens Museum is hosting Artrageous! where kids will learn about famous artists and then create their own masterpieces.  This is held between 2-3pm.  Tonight head down to Clifton Park and the Clifton Common Stage for "1,2,3, Sesame & Me" Puppet Show.  Starting at 7pm, the show features 15 look-alike Sesame characters and is free.

Thursday - Join Hola-la at the Saratoga Springs Library  for Bilingual Stories and More! This events begins at 11am and is free.  Or, if your child is in the mood for arts and crafts, head over to the Children’s Museum for Story Art from 10:30-11am.  They’ll read an exciting new story to inspire a different art project. Imaginations welcome!

Friday - The Childrens Museum  presents Wiggle & Giggle from 10-11:30  A time for children to explore the many different things that they can do with their bodies…crawl through tunnels, walk the balance beam, roll balls, toss bean bags, and make music with all kinds of instruments. A great time to meet new friends and get some exercise.  Today also starts Moreau Fun Days at the Harry Betar Recreation Park in the Town of Moreau, where the admission is free and you can enjoy fun for the whole family.

Saturday - Don't forget the Tang Museum at Skidmore and their Family Saturdays. Today's theme is Interior Dioramas and begins at 2pm.  After looking at Shelburne Thurber’s photographs of office spaces, make dioramas to create a 3-D version of a similar kind of room.  Also, the will be at various locations throughout Saratoga today.  Look for them for opportunities to ski and ride Whiteface for free this winter, along with incredible chances to win a Whiteface Season Pass!  By the way, they will be hiding at Congress Park from 10am-1pm, Horseshoe Inn Bar & Grill from 6-8pm, and Gaffney’s from 9-11pm.

Sunday - The track is giving away short sleeve t-shirts today, so don't miss out!  The Schuyler House  is hosting its 18th Century Day at General Philip Schuyler House from 12-5pm at Saratoga Battlefield.   Activities include candle making, tinsmithing, basket weaving and more.  Another fun thing to check out is the 1st Annual Depot Day from 1-4pm at Comic Depot in Wilton Mall  where they offer comic lovers a fun free day of bringing the creators to the fans.  This week is also one of the last weeks to pick blueberries.  I took the kids to a "pick your own" on Northern Pines Rd.  just past Ariel's (they are actually out of them already!)  Bring your own container or bag to bring them home in since they don't have any there.  Only $2 a pint, it was fun for everyone.

Monday - Kindergarteners entering Dorothy Nolan this year, come and meet your future classmates at Gavin Park at 11am.  Bring your lunch and hang out with other moms and kids from the area.  Afterwards, head to the Children’s Museum for their Summer Science Program from 2-3pm.  Join them for hands-on learning about the different ways science is all around us. This week they learn all about flying machines! $2 per child, recommended for ages 5 and up.

Tuesday - Program members of the YMCA, don't forget, today is registration!!  After you've taken care of business, hop over to the library with your older one and have them enjoy tie-dying for teens from noon – 1pm.  This is free but reservations are required for teens entering grades 6-12.  You bring the tees and they’ll supply the materials. Front lawn (Henry Street).  Also read to Quinn, the Newfoundland certified reading dog.  He will sit and listen to your child practice the skill of reading  from 11-12pm.  You can also check out the Children’s Museum summertime tots program from 10am -2pm  A special time for their littlest visitors. Finger-paint, make music, create pavement pictures, blow bubbles and much more! They will close off the upper parking lot and fill it with all kinds of activities. In the event of rain, meet in the Community Room!  Finally, at the end of the day, relax to the sweet music of Betsy and the Bygons for the Free Concert Series in Congress Park from 7-8:30.
