Readers, we all know how exciting Halloween can be for our kids. First there is the fun of dreaming up the right costume, then the hunt for all of the key pieces, and finally the thrill of putting it on finally for the big day. But sometimes in the mix of finding the right fake mustache that won't fall off or the best hot pink wig that won't itch to top off a Strawberry Shortcake we forget about ourselves and how much fun it STILL is to dress up for Halloween! That's the beauty of Halloween, it's fun for people of all ages, and if you're planning on dressing up this year but have procrastinated till now on finding a costume, Mamatoga is here to help. On this list you'll find some easy solutions to the age old "What should I dress up as this year?" question we all face at the last minute, plus there are solutions for moms and dads! Most of these costumes can be put together from items in your own closet too (especially if you have really interesting and eclectic taste, or a bathrobe...), so check it out and get excited for Halloween! 1. Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's
This is one of my absolute favorites, I love the movie, I love Audrey as Holly, I love it all. Throw your hair into an updo, put on a little black dress and a chunky statement necklace and voila! Forget all that talk about Holly actually being a prostitute, this is MOVIE Holly, not BOOK Holly. That's a different costume altogether.
This one couldn't be easier. Undies, a button down, and socks. Throw some Wayfarers on and practice sliding into the room and you're set. You might need a little confidence too. With the undies and all...
Another one of my all time favorites, I simply cannot pass up watching The Royal Tenenbaums whenever it's on TV. The Margot costume (which can be made into a couple costume with number 4) can be put together with a faux fur coat, a plain collared dress, a red hair clip and LOTS of black eyeliner. Throw in the cigarette and deadpan expression to complete the look. A little ennui wouldn't hurt either.
Richie can be assembled with a light colored suit with a polo shirt underneath, a fake beard, tennis striped sweatband and aviators, plus some wristbands if you're feeling extra sporty. And you know you will be feeling extra sporty.
This one, although easy as far as what it requires (old prom style dress, tiara) gets a little complicated with the fake blood. You can add as much or as little as you want, although I would suggest going a little lighter on the old fake blood than it looks like they did in this picture. Just saying. Perfect your slightly terrifying surprised face in the mirror before you go.
This one is not only easy it's also super comfortable! Throw on a bathrobe, a gray t-shirt and some plaid boxers and you've got it. This might actually be the way some people wake up, making it that much easier. A fake beard and mustache won't hurt, and you can carry around a white russian to get the full effect, perfect!
Simply put on a curly blonde wig, some skin tight black pants, a tight black top and some black heels and you have the slightly trashy post makeover Sandy. Smoking and hand jive dancing optional.
I have to admit I'm a huge Wes Anderson fan, and this Steve Zissou costume is fun and easy to put together. Get a white beard, a red knit hat and a blue collared shirt and you've got the Team Zissou look. If you REALLY want to win a costume contest you can drop some cash on these custom Team Zissou Adidas. I'm sort of in love with them.
For all you preggo Mamatogians this is a great costume! Easy and very comfortable, just put your hair into a ponytail, throw on a striped tee and a hoodie and you've got the look. Dress your Paulie up in little yellow shorts, a maroon hoodie and a yellow sweatband and you've got the perfect couples costume, as long as your Paulie doesn't mind short shorts.
I'm still procrastinating as to what I'm going to dress up as this year, and if you're in the same boat hopefully these suggestions might give you some ideas!
