Mamatoga Spotlight: Saratoga Children's Theater

Do you have a child interested in drama or one who just loves being on stage? Then Saratoga Children's Theater is for you! Saratoga Children's Theater was created in 2008 with a group of 15-20 children who loved to perform. Since then it has grown into a year round program offering workshops, classes and summer performance camps that now serves over 500 children yearly. All of their programs are instructed by professionals which increases the level of learning and each child's performance. The programs are offered to kids aged 6-18 years. According to Meg Kelly, the Saratoga Children's Theater executive director, the benefits received from participating in children's theater are many. "It builds self confidence, teaches public speaking, team work, and much more. It is an amazing sight when a young shy child comes to summer camp, on the first day they are very reserved and by the end of camp they are on stage singing and speaking their lines in front of an audience! Truly remarkable. This is why I hire professionals, they have the knowledge and ability to bring each child front and center, in a non threatening environment."

The summer camps are separated into three different age groups: SCT KIDS 6-9 years, SCT JUNIORS 8-15 years, and the SCT TEEN TROUPE for 12-18 year olds.

Saturday January 7th they will be having their Staff Showcase & Summer Season Announcement at 7pm at St. Peters School, 64 Hamilton Street in Saratoga Springs. You will be treated to an evening of Broadway-caliber performances by the very same staff that produces the shows at Saratoga Children's Theater during the year and in the summer.  Support SCT and enjoy their extremely talented staff members. This is an evening where you and your child can see their Summer Camp Staff performing.

Performers include:  Rob and Rosie Spring, Erika Hebert, Adam Hebert, Matt Duclos, Michael Lotano, Sarah Sutliff, June Coryer, Megan O'Sullivan, Karey Trimmings, and Joel Shapiro.

They will also be announcing our Summer 2012 shows. They will be producing 2 full-length Broadway musicals for middle and high school students- along with Junior and Kids shows as well. There will be opportunities to win summer discounts at the Showcase and soft drinks and refreshments included! Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children 18 and under and 100% of the proceeds go to their summer camp scholarship program.
