Mamatoga Top Ten: Hot New Toys for Summer Fun

This weekend is Memorial Day, kicking off the summer! I have visions of barbecues and backyard fun dancing in my head, so let's look at the Top Ten New Toys for the summer, guaranteed to make this summer even more fun for you and your kids! 1. Everyone knows that little kids + cardboard box = hours of fun, and here is a genius new way to ramp up that fun even more! The Rolobox Reuseable Wheel Kit for Boxes ($13.95 on Amazon) is a reusable set of wheels and brackets that can be fitted to any cardboard box with the chunky nuts and bolts provided. Kids can use the wheels as a fun, interactive game to create a bus, car, train and more. Simply add the wheels to any box and you're ready to roll!

2. I know my family for one didn't get enough sledding in this winter due to our weird non-winter up here, so this Year Round Sled ($59.95 at Hammacher Schlemmer) is perfect! Kids and adults up to 200 lobs can ride this all-season sled down slopes both during cold winter and hot summer days. According to Hammacher Schlemmer, the sled functions similarly to the "informal, fair-weather competitive pastime of ice blocking where one rides a frozen block of ice down a hill, two plastic ice molds that attach to the bottom of the sled are removed, filled with water, and frozen in a standard refrigerator freezer. When re-attached to the bottom of the sled, they reduce the friction between the ground and the sled (especially on hotter days that encourage melting) for a half-hour of snowless summer sliding." The sled works best when used on short grass, and in the winter with the molds removed, its smooth yet durable high-density polyethylene shell and runners provides exciting rides down snow and ice-covered hills!

3. What do kids love more than blowing bubbles? Colored bubbles! This universal toddler pleaser takes it up a notch by adding vibrant color to the bubbles, an easy way to keep kids engaged while outside or at the park, the colored bubbles wash off of skin with soap and water and just by regular washing from clothes. A three pack of Crayola Colored Bubbles is $9.99 from Toys R Us.

4. Get even more bubble fun while staying up late to catch fireflies with Glow Bubbles! With the Illuminator Bubble Blaster you can create tons of continuous glowing bubbles that are guaranteed fun for the whole family. $14.99 at Toys R Us.

5. According to the American Gardening Association, 98% of kids who grow their own vegetables eat them, and you can give kids the tools they need to get started with specially-themed garden kits from Growums! Kids can choose from six different kits, including Herb Garden, Pizza Garden, Salad Garden, Stir-fry Garden, Taco Garden and Ratatouille Garden and grow the veggies they need to cook their own meals. Each garden kit features unique, magical coco or peat pellets that make planting and growing easy for kids. Each kit is $9.99 from Growums.

6. This is already on the list for our family, the Water Knee Hockey game lets you enjoy a favorite summer time game while also cooling off and having fun splashing around. Simply attach the garden hose for a constant water supply. $49.95 at Hammacher Schlemmer.

7. No summer is complete without a Super Soaker, and this year check out the Thunderstorm. It's fully automatic with a range of up to 25-feet and it uses water magazine clips to reload. The Hydro Cannon may shoot more water than the Thunderstorm, but this way your arms won't get tired while pumping it a thousand times. $11.96 at Amazon.

8. Okay, this isn't technically a NEW toy, but this might just be my favorite. I had one of these Snoopy Sno-Cone Machines growing up and I just adored it. They first introduced it in 1979, and kids can create treats themselves to help them beat the heat. Just place an ice cube in the Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine and watch it transform into a delicious dessert with a few turns of the handle. Kids can even flavor their creations with their favorite juice. $24.58 at Amazon.

9. I am so into the idea of using a balance bike in between the training wheels and no training wheels stage to make the transition easier, safer and fun. This balance bike from KaZAM would be the perfect bike to use if your little one is ready to ditch the training wheels this summer. $99.95 from KaZAM.

10. Have a little one that loves digging in the dirt or sand in the summer? How about one that loves robots or Transformers? With these awesome Handtrux Shovels they can transform themselves into SUPER DIGGER! Simply slide the shovels on, step back and watch them go! $18 at Uncommon Goods.
