http://vimeo.com/46054248 Five years ago, two friends learned the truth about children being sold into slavery and decided it was time for change. What was then called the Ride4Love was born with two goals in mind: to raise funds for the work of Love146 and to raise awareness in the community about the issue of trafficking.
It is estimated that 27 million people are currently enslaved around the world and 1.2 million children are trafficked annually. In the United States, more than 100,000 children will be trafficked for the purpose of sexual exploitation this year and more than 300,000 are at risk. Many trafficked and prostituted children in the U.S. are runaways or abandoned children. The trafficking of children is, without question, one of the darkest social justice issues of our time.
Love146 works for the abolition of child sex slavery through Prevention and Aftercare solutions, combating exploitation with the unexpected and restoring survivors with excellence. Love146 believes in helping grow the movement of abolition while providing effective, thoughtful solutions.
The first Ride4Love consisted of just 60 participants. In the last 5 years, what is now the Ride Run Walk 4 Love (RRW4L) has grown to include hundreds of participants, dozens of local sponsors, and a rapidly growing planning committee dedicated to seeing the restoration of these children made a reality. The event has also raised over $150,000 for the work of Love146.
The event is being held on Saturday, September 22 at the Saratoga Spa State Park. Event participants have the option of biking 15 or 30 miles. In honor of Love 146’s tenth anniversary, a 100 mile bike ride will also be offered. The Anniversary Century will be a fully supported, guided, group ride including Love146 Founder Rob Morris and other Love146 staff. There will also be a 5k run/walk and children have the opportunity to bike one mile. Dinosaur BBQ will provide lunch.
“I am so excited to celebrate five years,” said my friend Jacob Hopper, event co-founder and founding partner of Saratoga Springs based Modern Mix Marketing. “It has really meant a lot to me to watch the event grow from year to year and see our community come together for this cause. It has meant even more to know there are hundreds of young lives being saved and restored because of our efforts.”
“We were introduced to Love146 and this event through a friend three years ago and our eyes were opened to an epidemic that we never imagined existed,” said premium sponsors Farzad and Karen Sani of Pediatric Dentistry of Glens Falls. “The effects of human trafficking on children and families are unconscionable. It has been our honor to help such a wonderful organization and cause over the last three years. Even if one life is saved and restored, then a whole generation is saved.”
