I got a chance to attend the press event today for the brand new Healthy Living Market and Cafe that will be going into the Wilton Mall and I can't even tell you how excited I am. Healthy Living Market and Cafe is a family business, owned and operated by Katy Lesser, her son Eli Lesser-Goldsmith and daughter Nina Lesser-Goldsmith. Katy started the Healthy Living Market and Cafe in Burlington, VT 26 years ago and it is now Vermont’s largest and best independently owned natural foods market. At the Market they have a strong community outreach department and are committed to local farmers and food producers. In addition, Natural Living Market and Cafe will also provide jobs to almost 150 people in our area. The nearly 35,000 square foot space will have both an indoor and outdoor entrance, as well as indoor and outdoor seating areas. Nina Lesser-Goldsmith talked about how they are getting a sense of "How much people in Saratoga love their town" and she emphasized how they really felt like they have chosen the right community for the new Market and I couldn't agree more. Katy Lesser told us they are "So much more than just another grocery store" and I chatted with her and her daughter Nina about what makes this store different for families.
Nina told me how "Families are our biggest market, we really are a family store. We do classes for kids and my general philosophy is that kids can do anything. They come into these classes and they blow me away, they are so talented and interested and I really try to get them to participate in making their stuff because then they are more willing to try it. The classes are totally hands on and they do everything."
Katy also talked about what sets them apart. "Families that love us most, love us because it is just a really safe zone for kids. The kids really get to know the store, and parents know that everything we have for sale is safe for kids to grab, kids grab the little carts and we really try to teach kids where food comes from."
They will have one or two kids classes a week as well as a kids cooking summer camp. I love that this is a family owned and family run store that has such a thoughtful and strong community and family focus. I simply cannot wait for them to be part of our community and I know they are going to be a perfect fit.
I got to check out the space that it will be going into and heard about some of the design aspects, like the floor to ceiling windows and the seating areas for the cafe and it sounds amazing. The photo above is the rendering for the Saratoga store. Here are a few photos of the Learning Center from the Burlington store to give you a feel for what to expect here as well.
