My Mom Life: Siobhan Dahl

What do you find tricky about your current set-up/schedule? What would you change if you could? My schedule is a little difficult right now.  My husband is currently working 12 hour night shifts and I work evenings 3 weeknights. Now that we are back to school it's a challenge to have someone watch the girls until I get out of work (anywhere between 9-11pm) and then have to pick them up and get them back home to bed, not to mention hoping  homework has been done. I am very grateful to my for my friends and family who watch them for me. I really don't know what I would do without them ! What do you like best about your current set-up/schedule? The best thing about my schedule is that I get to be home on the weekends and get to help out in my kids' classrooms.

If you had an extra hour in the day you would spend it…? If I had an extra hour I would spend it in a pile on the couch with the husband and kids watching a movie. That's my favorite spot.

Do you have time for yourself? What do you do during that time? I am adjusting to having lots of time to myself now that both my girls are in school. So far I've been cleaning and trying to organize the house. I have also been able to enjoy some alone time with my husband which is a nice change of pace.

Do you find it hard or difficult at all to stay connected to friends/people in your life now that you have kids? Do you find there is any gap or gulf in between you and the friends/people in your life that don’t have kids? Any tips on how to stay connected to those people? It can be very hard to stay connected with everyone after you have kids. Life and schedules seem to take over, work and t-ball and birthday parties, it never ends. I think as long as you make an effort and you have a few close friends that  you do your best to keep in touch with that's all you need.

What advice would you give to other moms about how to balance work and life? Finding a balance is a challenge but you can only be in so many places at once. And for those of us who need to work we are doing it for our kids. Not to mention it's always nice to have time with other adults...even if they are co-workers.

Is there anything you find yourself doing as a parent that you swore you would never do before you had kids? I'll admit I have licked my finger and used it to clean my daughters face. She was totally grossed out and I couldn't believe I did it. Just one of those moments you didn't want to take them in the store covered in chocolate doughnut and you had no wipes!

What is one thing you’ve realized/learned about motherhood that no one ever told you before you had kids? One thing I never realized about motherhood is how over scheduled you can be and somehow make it work. And of course the amount of love you have for your kids. I would do anything for them.
