Wait, I Need to Register for Summer Camp Already? (YES!)

campMaybe summer camp isn't the first thing on your mind, but it should be, because registrations are starting and programs fill up fast! Here at Mamatoga I'm going to give you the lowdown on what camps are out there and when to register so YOU get the spot that you want. Keep checking the "camp" tab up top for more updates. Photography and Filmmaking Workshops for Kids: a summertime series of week-long photography and filmmaking workshops for kids, ages 9-13 based out of Mamatoga Favorite Saratoga Paint and Sip Studio on Henry Street.

The Fun Spot in Queensbury has a great kids summer camp! Registration begins February 15th. Call them at 518-792-8989 for more information, or visit their website here! Here are more details:

North Country Horses Horsemanship Camp: Registration is open now and they are again offering a early sign-up discount so sign-up early, spots are limited!

The cost of camp is $275 per session. Discounts are available for children participating in more than one session, children who have siblings attending, as well as children who are current boarders or leasers. This year they will be offering 7 sessions of Summer Camp on the following dates:

This riding and horsemanship camp is a fun way to introduce new riders to the wonderful world of horses and expand the education of more experienced riders. Days are filled with horse activities geared towards developing riders into accomplished horse people. Riders learn how to handle and care for horses safely and properly. Instructors work with the students to provide them with an educational, fun-filled horse experience they will never forget.

More experienced riders will have the opportunity to improve and advance their riding skills. This creative summer equestrian riding camp program provides extensive riding and lesson time for children of all ages. Cowboy Freddy will be joining camp again this year too (Cowboy Freddy was Finn's favorite part last year!)

Camps at the Saratoga Regional YMCA:

CAMP STARHITCH: You can register in person at the YMCA Saratoga Springs Branch beginning Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 9am

Camp Starhitch is held at the Saratoga Springs Branch and runs for 9 one-week sessions. This camp is for children having completed Kindergarten through entering 5th grade. Campers will participate in games, sports, crafts, nature activities, trips, swimming and more! You may choose to attend day camp for one week or any combination of weeks.

Experienced counselors will supervise children and a ratio of 1:10 ensures a safe, quality camping experience. CPR and First Aid certified camp staff accompany all trips. Campers must bring a nourishing nut-free lunch and drink each day in an insulated bag with an ice pack. Each camper should also bring a swimsuit, towel and knapsack. All items should be labeled.

TRAVEL CAMP: You can register in person at the YMCA Saratoga Springs Branch beginning Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 9am

Join them for an adventure-packed summer. This program provides campers entering fifth grade through tenth grade an opportunity to travel everyday to fun-filled locations. Campers have a chance to explore different summer activities: amusement and water parks, outdoor sports, fairs, and horseback riding. Travel Camp conducts 9 one-week sessions. Join for one week or for all; this is your choice.

Located at the Saratoga Springs Branch, most day trips depart at 9am and return by 4:30pm. Campers will be grouped according to age and supervised by experienced adult staff. A 1:10 ratio ensures a safe, fun, and quality camping experience. This program is popular, so register early.

Skidmore's Camp Northwoods: Expect camp registration to open on the following dates:

March 15, 2013 - New to Camp Northwoods Registration

Camp Northwoods offers an exciting program of sports, cultural arts, nature study and relaxed play for children. The program draws on the rich and varied resources of Skidmore College and the surrounding area.  The camp's home base is Flastaff's Pavillion on the Skidmore College campus, but campers frequent the Williamson Sports Center, Schick Art Gallery, Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery, and Zankel Music Center.  The daily enrichment activities led by the qualified staff are supplemented by weekly field trips to recreational and historical sites, and visits by special guests.

Children entering grades 1-6* will also enjoy activities that include arts and crafts, ceramics, games, hiking, and daily swim time.  Their goal is to provide a variety of fun activities that happily challenge the imagination, intellect, and body. *Camper must be entering 1st grand and 6 years old by December 1, 2013.

KE Camps at Saratoga Golf and Polo Club: Registration for Summer 2013 is now open to Club Members. Spaces are limited so be sure to secure your spot early. Should a week fill up, they will begin a waiting list. You must be enrolled in advance in order to attend camp. On February 1, 2013, should space remain available, Member Guests will be invited to register for camp.

The Children’s Summer Activity Program at the Saratoga Golf & Polo Club offers an exciting summer camp experience for children in a beautiful setting. With the combination of outstanding facilities, an experienced director, and an energetic team of counselors, it is is the place to be! This program is for campers ages 4 to 10. At camp, your child will experience an array of exciting activities including, but not limited to, Arts & Crafts, Fun with Foods, Team Building, Group Games and Martial Arts. In addition, the club pros will provide campers with recreational golf and tennis instruction twice a week. Campers will have approximately 1 hour of recreational swimming each day. The best part is that no two days at camp are exactly alike!

Camp Dates: June 24 – August 2, Monday through Friday The structured camp day begins at 9am and ends at 4pm. Complimentary Before-Care begins at 8:30am and complimentary After-Care ends at 5:30pm.

Weekly Tuition: Members – $225, Member Guests – $265 (The week of July 1st will be offered at a rate of $155 for Members and $195 for Member Guests.) Please note that if you are not a member of Saratoga Golf & Polo Club, you must be officially sponsored by a member of the club in order to enroll your child in camp (there are many non-members who attend camp).

Saratoga Independent School offers a fun-filled, theme-based summer camp program following the academic year.  Registration for camp occurs in April and May for the weekly sessions.  Check in with them in the Spring for a full list of summer camp program themes.

The Beagle School offers a mixed-age program for children age 2 1/2 – 5.  A different theme is presented each week.  Families can choose a 2, 3, or 5-day-per-week schedule for any of the 10 weeks offered. Their Summer Camp has very limited openings, please call 587-7507 for more information on when to register.

The Town of Malta offers a Half Day Summer Camp and a Full Day Camp:

The Half Day Camp is a six-week program for the children of the Town of Malta that is licensed by the New York State Health Department. The program provides a structured, well-supervised program that enables children to use their leisure time constructively. It consists of two sites carefully supervised by experienced head counselors, sports specialists, and counselors trained to work with children through recreational, educational, artistic, and social activities provided in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

Full Day Summer Camp is held at the Malta Community Center. This New York State Health Department licensed program is well supervised with professional counseling staff. This program is open to children entering kindergarten through fifth grades in the fall of 2013. Participants will enjoy summer days packed with fun activities such as sports, crafts, games, movies, library time, nature, and character building activities. In addition, campers will participate in swimming one time a week, one field trip per week, and trips to local parks at no additional cost. Check their website for more details and how to register.

The Town of Wilton Summer Camp: Registration begins March 11th and ends June 12th.

Summer Camp Dates 2013 June 25 - August 9, 2013 Monday - Friday 9am - 3pm Extended care available from 8:30 am-9 am and 3-5:30 pm

Wilton Recreation offers a 7 week summer camp program for children in the Wilton Community and surrounding area. Wilton Recreation summer camp is NY State Inspected.

They offer four separate age groupings:

  • Pioneers, for those entering first and second grade.
  • Blazers, for those entering third and fourth grade.
  • Trail Seekers, for those entering fifth and sixth grade.
  • Trackers, for those entering seventh through ninth grade.

Campers may chose from three separate programs:

  • On-site, where camper's enjoy crafts, games, sports and more.
  • On-site / swimming two days per week, where camper's enjoy two days of swimming at nearby parks and three days of on-site activities.
  • Trips, where camper's can enjoy being off-site everyday with such activities as bowling, skating, swimming two days per week and a special trip on Wednesdays.

KIDS ACTING: 1-week camps. These one-week, full-day camps provide a fun and unique theatre experience for our campers. Acting camps rotate through acting, movement, and music activities. This camp will increase awareness, strengthen concentration and inspire creative spontaneity and imagination. Basic acting skills will be taught. The week concludes with a final camp day performance for family and friends. Ages 7-11. Monday – Friday 9am – 3pm.

Session 1: July 15 – 19   Session 2: August 12 – 16

At Saratoga Children's Theater they have acting camps for kids aged 7-18 with a Teen Troupe, Juniors, Kids, Rising Stars and Saratoga Children's Theater Idol. This summer they'll be producing Aladdin, Frog and Toad Kids, Alice and Wonderland and many more! Click here for information.
