Did you know that the St. Baldrick's signature head-shaving events are the fastest growing volunteer-driven fundraising opportunity benefitting childhood cancer? Did you also know we have one going on right here in our own city this Saturday, March 9th from 12-5pm at Saratoga City Tavern?! It's an easy and fun way to raise money for a very serious cause.
- More children are lost to cancer in the U.S. than any other disease—in fact, more than many other childhood diseases combined.
- Before they turn 20, about 1 in 300 boys and 1 in 333 girls will have cancer.
- Worldwide, a child is diagnosed every 3 minutes.
The event was created in memory of Dan Canary, a Saratoga Springs man who courageously fought adult t-cell lymphoma/leukemia (ATLL), one of the deadliest forms of cancer before succumbing, he would have celebrated his birthday in March. Becky Cook, one of Canary’s cousins, said the St. Baldrick’s event was organized with Canary’s spirit in mind.
The Fitch brothers have generously donated their tavern for the fourth years and have gone above and beyond in helping to raise money for the family friendly event. They have also created the "Beards for Baldrick's" through the tavern, so there will be head shaving AND beard shaving! They have over 100 "shavees" lined up for this year's fundraiser, and their goal this year is $75,000.
The way it works is easy, just click this link to donate and then come down to Saratoga City Tavern on March 9th from 12-5pm to support those shavees! You'll also be able to purchase t-shirts, crafts, food and drinks at the event to help out as well. One of my favorite "shavees" this year is Rory from D'Andrea's Pizza! Check out his own St. Baldrick's link right here to donate. Great pizza and shaving his head for childhood cancer? That's pretty awesome in my book. Like the Fitch Brothers said, "Grow it, Shave it, Beat it". They have already raised $53,293, let's all help them reach their goal this year and BRAVO to all of the shavees taking part this year, you guys are amazing! xoxo
