Mamatoga Loves: The 2013 Saratoga Springs Horse Show

I am a bona fide horse lover, from polo to the backstretch I want to see it all and do it all. I grew up riding horses and still try to find time to get in the saddle myself, and love watching the kids ride (they're both going to horse camp at North Country Horses this year). While I haven't had a lot of luck finding time to ride in the meantime I still love going to shows, and one of my all time favorite ones is the Saratoga Springs Horse Show. Located right across from the track and Yaddo the show runs from Wednesday, May 1st to Sunday, May 5th with a second show running from May 8th to May 12th. The Saratoga Springs Horse Show is the first outdoor USEF AA Rating and USEF Jumper 4 Rating Show in the Northeast and features Hunters, Jumpers, and Equitation classes held in three rings. The show has a long history operating continuously since 1960 and the 2013 show will be their 54th consecutive show!

We bring the kids every year and it is a tradition in our house to make it over there at least once. Admission to the Saratoga Springs Horse Show is just $3 for adults with children under 12 free and tickets can be purchased at the entrance gate. This is such a fun event to bring the whole family to, you can walk around under the trees and watch the riders in the rings, grab a little lunch and pick up something horsey at the vendor tents.

They do the shows Wednesday through Sunday for this week and next week and they start at approximately 8am and they wrap up around 4pm. The main event is the Grand Prix on Saturday at 3pm for both this Saturday and next Saturday, but they pretty much continuously have showing going on throughout the days though all day so you are guaranteed to see some great horsey fun any time.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks are available and they'll have great equine apparel, horse care products, show photography and more! I always have to pick up a souvenir shirt or other remembrance of the show at the souvenir tent too. One year I got a little boat and tote bag and we always get the kids t-shirts every year. Make sure to stop by, it's a Saratoga tradition you don't want to miss. Check out some of my photos from last year...
