Friends, I have found my official post-races spot and I cannot wait for all of you to check it out. The Brook Tavern, located on the corner of Union and Nelson (139 Union), just a horseshoe's throw from the racetrack, is the newest venture from Bob and Mary Alice Lee, the owners of the award-winning Wishing Well Restaurant (one of my all time favorites). We were lucky enough to have a sneak peek dinner last week and I must say it exceeded the already high expectations I had.
The atmosphere has a chic but comfortable clubhouse feel with just the right amount of equestrian style for this horse town and on the night we went the restaurant was full of friends eager to try the new menu. The most difficult part of the night was choosing what to get because everything sounded so good, and there was something for everyone. Small plates to try, incredible oysters just like at the Well, great steaks, and please, PLEASE try the fried pickles if you are so inclined. I'm still thinking about them. The menu had a similar feel to the great Wishing Well menu, but really came out on its own, especially with the "Union Neighbors" section, where they will have specials for each day of the week. As I read off each selection Sean just kept nodding his head, making mental notes to stop by and try each one (first one might be the lamb night). Even better though? A percentage of items sold from the Union Neighbors menu each month will go to benefit a local non-profit. I LOVE that. So cool.
Bob and his family have been an involved part of this community for many, many years, and I love that they are branching out with this new space. To celebrate the opening, they are having a Grand Opening Party this Sunday, April 14th from 5-8pm, there's going to be a cash bar and complimentary samples from the new menu and in the Union Neighbors feel they are donating 50% of the bar receipts from the evening to Saratoga Sponsor-a-Scholar!
Saratoga Sponsor-A-Scholar, a four-year-old program in Saratoga Springs, is a collaboration between the Saratoga Springs City School District and members of the community. The goal of the program is to help economically disadvantaged students at Saratoga Springs High School graduate from high school and attend college.
The program is dedicated to the philosophy that every student showing academic motivation and potential should have the opportunity to finish high school and continue on to college. For many students, this goal would be beyond their reach without the support and guidance of caring adults. Saratoga Sponsor-A-Scholar provides qualified students with mentors and college preparatory help during high school and financial assistance during college.
Everyone is invited to the Brook Tavern Grand Opening Party, so bring your friends and come check out the new place in town, I will see you guys there! xoxo
