My Favorite Warm Weather Craft (for mom & kids)

Caitlin McGauley, find more at Forget the rainbow loom bracelets. I'm over them. No matter how many times I clean my floors those little tiny rubber bands seem to appear, everywhere. As the craze took full hold in our house at one point Finn and Levy both had three or four loom band bracelets on at any given time. This summer I'm going back old school style to the friendship bracelets I used to make and share with my friends.

I can remember spending hours sitting at the swim club growing up creating these little treasures, finding out a friend's favorite colors, picking out the threads. Getting one from a close friend was such a treat, and sitting there making the bracelets was a nice, quiet and mellow activity which was perfect for some much needed summer downtime. These days, with the help of the internet, there are a bunch of great tutorials as well as some great new twists on this favorite summer classic. I'm going to teach the kids how to make these as part of some quiet time, and will definitely be sporting a few of them myself as a little nostalgic nod to summers past.

Wire-8-LoveI love these wire word bracelets over on Brit + Co., write a name, write a word, they are way easier than they look and add an extra bit of specialness to this sweet little craft.

braceletsMartha has a how-to for everything, so of course she has a how-to for making friendship bracelets. Hop on over to her site here for this simple tutorial to get started. There is also a really great tutorial on The Red Kitchen here for the spiral kind of bracelet (my favorite style).

friendship-bracelet-tutorial-12Who can forget these safety pin bead bracelets?! I loved these, and I loved making little single pins to give to friends to wear on shoelaces or backpacks. These are super easy to make either the more traditional way (tutorial here) or a slightly easier version (tutorial here).

SPB4-MULTILove the look but don't love to craft? These temporary tattoos from Tattly are the cutest thing ever with just enough chic to make me want to wear one as well. Plus, they come in sets of two, one for you and one for your favorite person. Love it.
