As my due date with baby Tallis approached I knew I wanted to do some newborn photos, but I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to do them. I love those first precious photos of mom and baby in the hospital and feel like that is such a special time for the whole family, but I didn't even realize that newborn in-hospital photo shoots were a thing until I luckily was sat next to Alice Corey at a fundraiser this summer and she and I chatted about what kind of photos she could do in the hospital. I fell in love with the idea of capturing some of those first moments, and Alice was super accommodating at setting up a perfect time that was comfortable for both me and the baby. The shoot itself was so nice and easy, armed with a box full of THE cutest accessories I have ever seen (including my new favorite baby bows from this etsy shop) Alice was a pro at finding the perfect lighting and I felt totally comfortable with her. The whole thing felt more like a friend visiting and taking a few snaps rather than a formal photo shoot type deal, which is really how you need it to feel when you're wearing a hospital gown after just giving birth.
While I was still in the hospital she sent me a few of the shots just to get a sneak peek, and I was actually in tears at how amazing they were. The shots felt so beautiful and natural and they were exactly what I had hoped they would be like. The newborn in hospital shoot is such a special idea because not only do you get those great first mom and dad with new baby moments, but you can also capture the first sibling and grandparent moments, those adorable shots of them wrapped in the hospital blanket, all of those little moments that can seem like a blur in the new baby haze.
I love capturing all the tiny details that time tends to dissolve and make fuzzy. A newborn’s teeny fingers and toes. The way a 1 year old attacks his or her cake during a cake smash session. A bride’s bouquet and shoes. The curve of a woman’s hip in her prime. The love and relationship between siblings during a family session. All of these tiny details make you, your children, or your event uniquely yours. My greatest joy is capturing them in a keepsake photo that preserves them in perfect clarity forever. I love working with babies, children, individuals, couples & families. This is my life’s passion and I am grateful for all of my clients that make it all possible. ~Alice Corey
