North Country Horses is a great day camp for any kids interested in being outdoors, hanging out with animals, making new friends and learning something new. Great for beginning or advanced riders, this camp located just minutes from Saratoga Springs at 438 Clark Road in Gansevoort is a quintessential camp experience: riding ponies, making crafts, having lunch with new friends in the sun. We love North Country Horses!
Day Camp is offered to any beginner through advanced rider, ages 5 and older. The rider must be 5 or older by their camp week. Riders will be grouped according to skill level during lessons. At the beginner level, riders will learn how to be safe and comfortable around the horses. Riders will learn the basics of riding including walk, halt, steering, and beginning to work at the posting trot. At the intermediate to advanced level, campers will continue to work on skills learned in the past including; trotting on correct diagonals, balance of horse and rider, bending of horse, progress to or solidify canter or lope and work on identifying correct leads & jumping if riding level warrants. Camp will begin each weekday at 9am and finish at 4pm.
Pony Pals is a shorter camp day for younger riders ages 4-6 years old. Riders will learn how to be safe and comfortable around the horses. Riders will learn the basics of riding including walk, halt, steering, and beginning to work at the posting trot. Camp will begin each weekday at 9am and finish at 12pm.
Advanced Rider Camp is a full day camp for more skilled, current NCH riders. The focus will be on more advanced riding skills, including preparation for horse shows. Admission to this program is at the discretion of NCH trainers.Camp will begin each weekday at 9am and Finish at 4pm.
Riding lessons during all camps will be coordinated by an NCH trainer. Camp also includes un-mounted sessions to cover training of key topics that every rider should know. These classes are designed to build the rider's self-confidence while teaching horsemanship and safety. Lessons concentrate on safety first, proper grooming, communication skills, body alignment, balance and an independent seat, which are the building blocks in becoming a good rider.
Of course there is always lots of time for games and group activities providing fun and entertainment all week long. The camp week is structured to provide campers with good horse sense while having lots of fun.
This is the camp that Levy attended for the past two years and we absolutely love it. The kids learn responsibility by taking care of the horses they are riding (feeding them, grooming them, bringing them water) while also having so much fun. The end of every session was always met with tears from Lev who wanted to just keep going, and all week long we would hear stories about each horse and what they did that day. Walking through the barn she would greet each horse by name, patting them on the nose, telling me little anecdotes about each one. It really helped her with becoming more comfortable with the horses, more comfortable with riding, and increased her ability with riding by leaps and bounds. I highly recommend it for both beginner and more advanced riders. Tuition for Day Camp is $350.00 per session, Advanced Rider Camp $350.00 per session, and Pony Pals Camp is $160.00 per session A $50.00 non-refundable deposit must be paid at time of registration.
