Build-It Bonanza! is today at The Children's Museum at Saratoga, 69 Caroline Street, Saratoga Springs from 10:30am to 3pm. Free with Museum admission, $8 per person. Drop into their community room to enjoy a wide selection of fun and educational building activities. With their large collection of construction toys there will be something for children of all ages! Practice basic problem solving skills by trying one of the “Build-It” challenges or use your imagination to create something unique. Program offered twice: 10:30am - 12pm & 1:30 - 3:00pm.


Natural Picture Frame Craft at Wildlife Preserve & Park, 80 Scout Road, Gansevoort from 1-2pm. Kids will use twigs, pine cones and other materials found in nature to create picture frames. This program is for children ages 5 and up. Pre- registration required by February 15th, click here for more info.


The Hug a Tree and Survive program is today at Saratoga Spa State Park at 3pm. This program teaches children how to survive in the woods should they become lost. This program is appropriate for children ages 6 to 12, and lasts approximately 45 minutes. The program includes a video and demonstrations. Each child receives a survival pack with their own safety whistle. This program costs $5 per student. Registration is required. Please call (518) 584-2000 Ext. 116 to register.


Kids in the Kitchen: Chopped Junior! is today from 11am to 12:30pm at Healthy Living Market and Cafe in Saratoga Springs. Bring your passionate little chef to this class to test their skills just like in the Food Network show, Chopped Junior!  Teams will be given a basket of mystery ingredients and then they’ll have use to use creativity, teamwork, and their appetites to create their own recipe and dish using the ingredients!  At the end, everyone will get to taste the dishes and everyone will be a winner!  This class is great for school age children; $25/child. Homemade Baby Food 101 with Sam Pierre is today at Healthy Living Market and Cafe in Saratoga Springs from 10–11am. Tie-Dyed Snowflakes is at The Children's Museum at Saratoga, 69 Caroline Street, Saratoga Springs from 10:30am to 12pm. Cost is free with Museum admission, $8 per person. Stop in anytime between 10:30am and 12pm to create some colorful snowflakes! Kids will use coffee filters, markers, and water to make this fun and festive craft. Just like real snowflakes, each snowflake will be a unique masterpiece for you to take home and enjoy.


Preschool Naturalists is today at 10am at Saratoga Spa State Park, this nature class is designed for children ages 3 to 5. This hour long program will focus on using all five senses to explore a certain aspect of the outdoor world. Children will also enjoy a nature related story and craft. Make Healthy Snowman Snacks today at The Children's Museum at Saratoga, 69 Caroline Street, Saratoga Springs from 1:30 to 4pm. Cost is $6 per child, $5 for members. Using fruit, popcorn, bagels and cream cheese these snowmen snacks will be just as much fun to eat as they are to make! Space is limited. If interested, please call the Museum at (518) 584-5540 to pre-register. Program will be $6 per child ($5 for members) to help cover grocery costs. Program offered twice: 1:30pm - 2:30pm & 3 - 4pm.


There's an Owl Prowl at Wilton Wildlife Preserve tonight from 6-7:45pm at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park (80 Scout Road) in Gansevoort. Assemble at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park for a presentation on owls followed by an Owl Prowl to listen for owls. For participants ages 5 & up. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please dress for the weather and bring a flashlight and snowshoes if possible. Some loaners will be available. Facilitated by an Environmental and Conservation intern from Wilton Wildlife. Join them at the Saratoga Springs Public Library for Campfire Stories and Songs from 6:30-7:30pm. Gather round the campfire for stories & songs, enjoy s'mores, make a few wintery crafts and try your luck at a penguin bean bag toss. The Paws4Reading tutors will also be tenting with everyone! For children ages 3-10, accompanied by parent or caregiver. No registration necessary.


Exploring Bugs with Catseye is today at The Children's Museum at Saratoga, 69 Caroline Street, Saratoga Springs from 10:30am to 1pm. Cost is free with Museum admission, $8 per person. Join Caddie and the Catseye crew to celebrate the opening of the "Be a Bug" exhibit, located on the Museum's first floor! Sponsored by Catseye Pest Control, the new exhibit allows kids to see the world through a bug’s eyes and learn about insects. Drop in the Museum’s community room anytime between 10:30am and 1pm to hang out with Caddie, meet some REAL bugs, make fingerprint insects, create bead caterpillars, and enjoy other educational bug activities. There will even be special Catseye giveaways!


Take part in the Winter Scavenger Hunt today from 1-2pm at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park, 80 Scout Road, Gansevoort. Admission is free for this afternoon of outdoor exploration. Children will learn to use their senses to explore the outdoors during winter by working to complete a nature scavenger hunt. The program is designed for children 5 and older. Snowshoes will be available for rental 30 minutes before the program: free for members, $3 for nonmembers. If there is no snow, the program will take place without snowshoes. Kids can check out STEM Explorations: Penny Boats at The Children's Museum at Saratoga, 69 Caroline Street, Saratoga Springs from 2:30-3:30pm. Cost is free with Museum admission, $8 per person. In this fun hands-on program kids will explore different topics in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math! For this program kids will be designing boats out of aluminum foil. Test if the boat floats and count how many pennies it can hold before it sinks. Drop in anytime between 2:30 and 3:30pm.


There's a Star Wars Extravaganza today at the Clifton Park - Halfmoon Public Library, 475 Moe Road, Clifton Park from 1-5:30pm. Use THE FORCE! Come in costume or come as you are and join the rebel alliance to celebrate all things STAR WARS. There will be games, challenges, activities, and out-of-this-galaxy snacks (provided by the Friends of the Library) based on the universe inhabited by George Lucas' beloved series. This is a drop-in family program for children ages 5 and up, accompanied by an adult.

Clifford's Birthday Surprise is today at the Saratoga Springs Public Library from 10:15 to 11:30am. Join WMHT Public Television and celebrate the birthday of one of the most famous PBS Kids characters. Clifford craft activities and meet Clifford. Open to families with children in Pre-K thru 3rd grade. Call 584-7860 to register.


Winter Challenges is today at 11am at Saratoga Spa State Park. Join in by the fire to learn how some local wildlife species survive the cold temperatures before heading outside in search of animal tracks. A tracking craft will follow the outdoor lesson. Story Time is today at Northshire Bookstore on Broadway in Saratoga Springs at 10:30am, free and open to the public on their Children's Floor.


Family Film Friday is today at the Clifton Park - Halfmoon Public Library, 475 Moe Road, Clifton Park at 2pm today and they'll be showing Brave. Take a heroic journey with princess and archer Merida as she defies ancient customs and unleashes chaos across the kingdom. This is a drop-in program for families with children ages 4 and up.  Light refreshments will be provided. (Rated PG; 93 minutes long.)


WEEKEND SNEAKY PEEK:

The 21st Annual Ballston Spa Winter Fun Festival is on Saturday, February 20th! From 11am to 8pm, this year will feature:

Sledding down Bath Street hill (11am - 5pm) -- Depending on SNOW! Music, dancing, contests, and free food at the Elks Club on Hamilton Street (6 - 10pm) Indoor snowball rumble Children's coloring contest with prizes and children's crafts at the Elks Club (6 - 8pm) Sponsored by The Village of Ballston Spa, the Town of Milton, and the Elks Club.
