When we had our fourth baby Talley, photographer Alice Corey came to the hospital to take photos just a day after she was born. It was the first time I had ever heard of in-hospital photo shoots, and I was blown away by the results. This time around, with our fifth baby, Wellesly Charlotte (or Welles, as we call her) I couldn't wait for those precious first photos.
Alice's photos perfectly capture that hazy, almost dreamlike first days with a new baby, that feeling of being so in love with this little person that you can't stand it. People always say you forget how little they are when they are born, and even after five kids, it is still true. You really do forget how teeny tiny they can be, the little fingers and toes, the little nose.
That's what makes these photos so special, they record that brief time when this little person in your family is so brand new. These photos freeze time for that fleeting period that goes by in the blink of an eye.
Alice makes you feel completely comfortable, which isn't an easy feat given the fact that you are in a hospital bed having just given birth. But she puts you at ease right away, and the entire experience is actually really enjoyable. I swear I almost cried more than once just looking at the pictures in the preview on her camera, they were so special to us.
