Mamatoga Style: Saratoga Etsy

Readers if you are not already familiar with Etsy allow me to introduce you. Etsy was launched in 2005 and got its name from one of it's founders, Robert Kalin "wanted a nonsense word because I wanted to build the brand from scratch. I was watching Fellini's 8 ½ and writing down what I was hearing. In Italian, you say 'etsi' a lot. It means 'oh, yes.' And in Latin, it means 'and if.'" Etsy is an e-commerce website that is focused on handmade or vintage items as well as art and craft supplies. These items cover a huge range including art, photography, clothing, jewelry, edibles, bath & beauty products, quilts, knick-knacks and toys. Lots of sellers also sell craft supplies like beads, wire, and jewelry-making tools. All vintage items must be at least 20 years old and these items range from old boots and ice skates, to dresses, hats and scarves and even lingerie. The site follows in the tradition of open craft fairs, giving sellers personal storefronts where they list their goods for a fee of twenty cents. It has been compared to "a crafty cross between Amazon and eBay" and to "your grandma's basement." I don't remember when I first stumbled upon Etsy, but it was love at first sight. As a vintage clothing junkie I was hooked right away, I have bought bikinis from France, kids clothes, faux fur jackets from Sweden, bags, vintage Lilly Pulitzer dresses, you name it I've bought it. I've even had sellers create custom orders for me as well. I've bought baby gifts, Halloween costumes (Finn's Max from Where the Wild Things Are costume was amazing), t-shirts, jewelry, stuff for the home and kitchen, I just can't get enough and I've never been disappointed with a seller. Today I wanted to feature Etsy in a fun way though, because included in the countless sellers from around the world on Etsy there are sellers that have amazing stuff that are from right here in Saratoga Springs, and today for our Styles feature I'm going to show you a few of them and what they have to offer. Here is a fun little crochet penguin from the seller mljewelry, this is an adorable little toy to give to your little one or as a gift, all handmade by a local mom! Check out her shop here.

If you want to go with something bold and unique this summer check out this handmade bib necklace by seller lilywhitepad, a local young woman who loves to create, you'll definitely know you are wearing a one of a kind design and will stand out with this pretty pink statement piece! Check out her Etsy shop here.

Or if you're looking for something different to decorate your home, check out this vintage Spy lithograph. I have to admit readers, I absolutely love Spy lithographs, and I am seriously considering snapping this one up for it's great price. Check out this local Etsy seller's shop here.

I'm a sucker for anything from the 1930's, and I think the style from that era is just beautiful, and this suit is no exception. This would definitely be a splurge at $245 but it is a perfect condition piece made in the 1930s in Lanz's original Salzburg factory, definitely not something you come across every day! Check out this vintage seller's shop here.

This is but a mere minor sampling of all that the Etsy Saratoga Springs sellers have to offer, not to mention the endless offerings on the entire site, which we will feature again soon. You can search for literally anything, custom made baby gifts, adorable toddler and kids clothes and accessories, cool vintage stuff to spruce up your wardrobe and gorgeous handmade and vintage jewelry, just to mention a few options. So go check it out! But I warn you, it is addicting! So happy shopping and enjoy this beautiful Thursday Mamatogians!
