Mamatoga Style: Miss Scarlett Boutique

While the rain has been falling today I decided to spend the forced time indoors shopping with my three year old. First we hit up Target to snap up the last few Missoni pieces in her size and then we went to one of my favorite shops downtown, the Miss Scarlett Boutique. What I love about this little boutique is that you can find fashionable, incredibly priced pieces for yourself while also shopping for your little one. The store is stocked with fashion pieces from two great shops that you can usually only find in big cities, Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters, and at prices a lot less than retail as well. I used to stock up on items from those two shops whenever I would visit New York City but now I don't have to because Miss Scarlett's carries them right here in our fair city. As I walked in, met by the sounds of Edith Piaf which went perfectly with the rainy afternoon outside, I was immediately taken with a gorgeous clingy tan dress with a faux fur accent in the display window. This dress is by one of the top designers the owner, Jen, carries at the shop called Ya Los Angeles. It's a perfect fall dress to wear with heels or boots, and at only $47 it is much more luxe than the price would suggest. In fact, all of the Ya Los Angeles dresses, while looking like they cost way more, are under $50. There were countless items that caught my eye, including a pair of super soft, super comfortable jeans by Level 99, which usually retail from $98-110 but sell at Miss Scarlett for $45. There were feminine yet sophisticated dresses from Blue Bird and Urban Behavior that have design details and styles that you wouldn't expect to find on dresses that are in the $38-$75 range. Miss Scarlett's also carries a full range of Sugarlips seamless leggings, tanks, camisoles, bra tops and bandeaus in all colors, and it's no surprise this line is one of her best sellers since the price range, starting at $10, can't be beat. The high quality leggings, tanks and tops are staples that can be worn everyday and also have their own understated style. Besides clothes for women, Miss Scarlett also carries a wide range of jewelry also with amazing prices. One bracelet I was coveting goes for only $7, and there is a huge selection of fun, beautiful earrings, necklaces and bracelets to choose from, all with the unique, slightly quirky style you'd find at Anthropologie. Perhaps the best part of the Miss Scarlett boutique however is the line for girls created by the owner called Jen Jen, who actually named the boutique after her adorable toddler Scarlett (who is the little beauty in the photo). The unique and stylish women's fashions in the shop are matched by this hip and fun girls line which has been featured in magazines like Child, Parenting, InStyle and Martha Stewart Living as well as a recent cameo an adorable hot pink cardigan had on the NBC show Parenthood. The adorable pieces are retro inspired and classic with a fun girly twist and Lev wanted them all, and I did too. They carry sizes from newborn up to 12 and just like the adult items these pieces have fantastic prices so you can pick up a dress for yourself and a dress for your daughter and still not spend too much. Miss Scarlett's also carries housewares from Anthropologie and Urban Outfitters, everything from duvet covers, pillows, rugs, and shams to glassware and vases, all with the same appealing stylishness that you might find in a NYC boutique but at a fraction of the prices. Check out what the Times Union Home Decor blogger had to say about the housewares on offer at the boutique here. I myself have bought many housewares items from the shop, being a huge fan of Anthropologie (but not of their prices), and I'm always thrilled at getting such an amazing bargain for such fantastic pieces that I would pay at least twice as much for from Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters. So if you're looking for something for you, your daughter, or to add some style to your home this is the perfect place to stop, because you can find items for all three and still spend as much as if you're only buying one. Miss Scarlett Boutique is located at 19 Phila Street, in Saratoga, 587-7711, you can also check them out on (and like them) on facebook! [slideshow]
