Mamatoga Sunday Brunch: Nutella Stuffed French Toast

As you readers know, brunch is my absolute favorite meal, whether out at one of the fabulous restaurants in town or staying in and cooking at home. So here at Mamatoga every Sunday I'm going to give you one of my most beloved brunch recipes to share with your family at home. I'm going to kick start this new feature with a Nutella recipe, since Nutella is another one of my great passions! This recipe is sweet and easy and is a definite kid pleaser.

Nutella Stuffed French Toast: Serves 4-6

  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 3 Thick slices of Bread (brioche or french bread works, I also like to use Rock Hill Bakehouse pane bello or farm bread)
  • 3-6 tablespoons Nutella
  • 4-6 tablespoons butter
  • Confectioners sugar for topping
  • Strawberries and bananas (optional)

Directions: Make a slit in each piece of bread and fill with a tablespoon of Nutella; seal the edges as much as possible, you can also add a little slice of strawberry or banana in here too. In a bowl, beat the eggs, milk, cinnamon and sugar til frothy. Place each piece of Nutella filled bread into the egg mixture and soak for about 30 seconds on each side. In a large skillet heat the butter on medium until very hot, but be careful not to over brown. Cook each piece of egg soaked bread in the butter (about 2-3 minutes on each side) until browned and make sure to also cook on the edges. To top, sprinkle with powdered sugar and your choice of fresh fruit. Enjoy!
