Mamatoga Loves: Summer with the Kids at SPAC & GE Kids In Free Days

When planning your summer in Saratoga Springs, including SPAC is at the top of everyone's list no matter what types of performances you're into. And if you're looking for family friendly entertainment, SPAC has a lineup this summer that has something for everyone! Here is a list of just some of the unique family-friendly events SPAC offers this summer. And did you know that introducing kids to classical music and dance at a young age makes it much more likely they will appreciate and attend arts performances throughout their lifetimes? That is definitely something I want to instill in my own children, and there is no better place to start than Saratoga Performing Arts Center. Check out some of SPAC’s efforts to connect kids to the arts and start marking your calendars today:

  • Classical Kids presented by Union College:  In partnership with Union College, SPAC brings classical music and dance to local middle school students around the Capital Region . This multi-faceted program features a unique curriculum built around study of selected classical works from SPAC’s season program, live, in-school demonstrations by professional dancers and musicians, and attendance at SPAC to experience world-class performances by the New York City Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra. With the completion of this program, children are given two SPAC season lawn passes to attend  classical performances until they graduate from high school.

  • CDPHP “Family Nights” at New York City Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra, 6 – 8 p.m.: Every Friday during the SPAC residencies of the New York City Ballet and The Philadelphia Orchestra, SPAC’s lawn comes alive with fun family activities including strolling magicians, a balloon artist, free Stewart’s ice cream, chalk contests and more. At 7 p.m., children are invited to participate in Children’s Workshops on the Lawn conducted by world-class NYCB and Philly Orchestra dancers and musicians.
  • Wed, July 11: American Girl® Night presented by Emma Willard, 6 – 8 p.m.: In partnership with American Girl Place in New York and Emma Willard, SPAC invites girls to bring their favorite dolls to this special celebration. The event features crafts, American Girl Doll giveaways, free lemonade and cookies, entertainment and photos by Saratoga PhotoBooth.
  • Sat. Aug 4: “Arabian Nights” Return to the Ottoman Empire with talented professional storyteller engaging the lawn audiences with One Thousand and One Nights, belly dancers, exotic food, and special surprises.

  • Sat. Aug 18: Tchaikovsky Spectacular! Come celebrate Tchaikovsky’s magnificent 1812 Overture on the lawn with live cannons, an interactive military encampment in period costume, and also features fireworks!
