Apple Picking at Riverview Orchards

The kids had a day off from school yesterday and the weather was feeling downright autumnal so we decided to head out on our first apple picking trip of the season (I realize it isn't technically fall yet but I couldn't help myself). We love Riverview Orchards in Rexford, they have a nice, laid back feel and the owners and employees are always so nice and welcoming. Their cider donuts, I must note, are absolutely one of our family's favorites in the area, if not THE favorite. They had a great selection of apples yesterday too, and it was a nice and easy little pick with plenty for the small ones to get a hold of. When we got home I decided to just go for it and bake the first pie then and there and I think it turned out pretty decent. I don't go for the crazy crumb topped Dutch apple pie stuff (although I LOVE that and wish I was skilled enough to attempt it), rather I just go for the simple butter crust, apples + sugar + cinnamon variety and pair it with some ice cream. It was very relaxing I must admit, sitting there peeling the apples we just picked while listening to a little Billie Holiday with my favorite Cath Kidston apron on, and the scent of the pie cooking lured the kids back inside as it got dark. xoxo for more info on where to pick apples, check out the Mamatoga Fall Fun Guide here...
